Mientras escribimos esto, el diario Washington Post registra que Donald Trump ha pronunciado 30.529 afirmaciones falsas o engañosas en el lapso de los 1455 días que ha deshonrado la oficina del presidente de Estados Unidos, y el recuento sigue aumentando por cada minuto. Es el colmo de la mendacidad afirmar que Cuba es un estado patrocinador del terrorismo y nadie cuerdo se lo cree.
No hay evidencia ninguna de que Cuba comete o promueve el terrorismo. Las principales razones dadas por el Departamento de Estado son que (1) miembros del ELN, que viajaron a La Habana para mantener conversaciones de paz con el gobierno colombiano en 2017, permanecen en Cuba y (2) Cuba alberga a varios prófugos estadounidenses de la justicia buscados por cargos de violencia política, "muchos de los cuales han residido en Cuba durante décadas".
Estas dos razones son pretextos y ocultan las verdaderas intenciones de la administración de Trump, que es continuar castigando a Cuba por su defensa de la soberanía nacional.
Cuba sencillamente sigue los protocolos establecidos con Colombia para facilitar el fin de interminables guerra y violencia callejera, lo opuesto al terrorismo.
En cuanto a la solicitud de extraditar a los “fugitivos de la justicia", Cuba ha actuado de la misma manera que muchos otros países donde los acusados continúan viviendo en ausencia de un tratado de extradición entre las partes. También es el colmo de la hipocresía, dado que Estados Unidos ha albergado a terroristas notorios y confesos que atacaron a Cuba en repetidas ocasiones y realizo numerosos ataques a través de sus propias agencias o lacayos.
Es obvio que la decisión del Departamento de Estado es otro intento de Trump para deshacer todo lo que hizo Obama, incluidos los esfuerzos para normalizar las relaciones entre los dos países, congraciarse con grupos extremistas y sus representantes fanáticos en el Congreso, y desviar la atención de una dura verdad: el mismo Trump ha mostrado ser un patrocinador de terrorismo en la capital de su país.

FORNORM DECLARATION ON INCLUDING CUBA IN THE LIST OF STATE SPONSORS OF TERRORISM

As we write this, the Washington Post has recorded Donald Trump to have uttered 30,529 false or misleading claims in the span of the 1455 days he has disgraced the office of president of the United States, and the count keeps rising by the minute. None is more egregious than the claim that Cuba is a state sponsor of terrorism, which no sane person believes.
There is no evidence that Cuba engages in or promotes any form of terrorism. The two main reasons given by the State Department are that (1) members of the ELN, who travelled to Havana to conduct peace talks with the Colombian government in 2017, remain in Cuba; and (2) Cuba harbors several U.S. fugitives from justice wanted on charges of political violence, “many of whom have resided in Cuba for decades.”
These tired reasons are pretextual, and obscure the true intentions of the Trump administration, which is to continue to punish Cuba for its defense of national sovereignty.
Simply, Cuba has been strictly following the protocols established with Colombia to facilitate the end of interminablewar and street violence, the opposite of terrorism.
As to the request to extradite “fugitives from U.S. justice,” Cuba is acting in the same manner as many other countries where such alleged fugitives continue to live in the absence of an extradition treaty between the parties. It is also the height of hypocrisy given that the United States has harbored notorious and confessed terrorists who attacked Cuba repeatedly, and conducted numerous attacks itself or through proxies.
It is obvious that the State Department decision is another attempt by Trump to undo everything Obama, including the efforts to start normalizing relations between the two countries, to please extremist groups in South Florida and their fanatical representatives in the U.S. Congress, and to divert attention from a hard truth: Trump himself has been a sponsor of terrorism in the capital of his own country.
